When you want to save game, you give your "chip" in. All around the table must throw their chips in and the game will be saved. If not, those who gamble will loose their chips.

Basically if you individually want to save game it's always a risk to do so if others don't want to. And what happens when one player runs out of chips? Buy your stuff, go in, buy more kinda gaming) if you can review and try again?

But there's one point. You go into this dungeon. Play it to 60% in 8 hours (big one) and then you die. You want to play the same dungeon again and your Referee really wants to run it. What do you do?

1. Start again with new characters basically grinding and doing the same stuff again to get to 61% where things are new.
2. The dungeon is cleared to 60% by previous adventurers. Good rol...I don't think that's a good idea. Good roleplaying comes (at least partially) from caring about your character and being afraid of what might happen to him. Having a "save game"-feature takes that away. Why should I care about what's going to happen to my character, when I can just "load" a previous savegame? There'd be no consequences in a game world anymore, and at least I think consequences (especially unforeseen ones) are one of the great things about roleplaying.

This would also lead to a kind of metagaming I wouldn't appreciate. We tell players to seperate player knowledge from character knowledge. A "save"-feature would signal the players to do the ecaxt opposite.Kai S.https://www.blogger.com/profile/03839585852861939546noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6423678674802842720.post-34090140600829719062013-03-30T23:02:55.589+02:002013-03-30T23:02:55.589+02:00Give me blind mutants with molten faces, inbred ca...Give me blind mutants with molten faces, inbred cannibal descendants of politicians who have been hiding from electorate since the world burned, brains suspended in glass tanks, robots with mechanical tentacles ending to plasma cutters, reptoids out of depths of earth cache of experimental energy weapons.Jonashttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11838302056850766272noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6423678674802842720.post-38430376869214870002013-03-29T16:05:31.169+02:002013-03-29T16:05:31.169+02:00Nice cover; really evocative.Nice cover; really evocative.CharlieAmrahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17776511413391032318noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6423678674802842720.post-7512834658466255362013-03-29T14:26:43.769+02:002013-03-29T14:26:43.769+02:00This is great news! :)This is great news! :)Adminhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12026518938102257087noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6423678674802842720.post-13199488201567270352013-03-24T23:20:42.871+02:002013-03-24T23:20:42.871+02:00That is good sort of crazy, something I would expe...That is good sort of crazy, something I would expect to bump at pages of old White Dwarf magazine. They remind me of all those boss battles on the 1980s and 90s console games, chipping away on a bar of health. There needs to be consequences for damage beyond a loss of 'points' that otherwise has no connection to your character beyond how many hits they can take before they finally fall over.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00839217803819112457noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6423678674802842720.post-3112407441525377392013-02-13T13:38:19.385+02:002013-02-13T13:38:19.385+02:00How do healing spells factor in then? Why can't the healing spell be used to temporarily boost your combat ability *before* combat?

How does your skill in combat reduce the effects of ingested or injected poison? Presumably someone more coordinated with faster reflexes should be able to more effectively twist and turn such that potentially lethal blows turn into something less lethal?

This isn't a new explanation, in short. The AD&D1 DMG explained them that way in the late '70s or so. It wasn't persuasive then and this hasn't changed now.
