We were starting to play Vampire: the Masquerade and created a character but decided to watch some movie before we start playing. I left my V:tM book on the floor leaning against a table. After a movie when we started playing I went to fetch my Vampire rulebook and...

My V:tM was ruined, bitten through and scratched to bits.

You should consider this an omen. Play Werewolf instead!
Yeah... or get a spare V:tM. I already got two pieces of Werewolf: the Apocalypse second edition ;)
