Playing D&D With Porn Stars: Why I Love Simple Initiative

Playing D&D With Porn Stars: Why I Love Simple Initiative: "The players come around a corner and there's a bunch of goblins about to eat a baby. It's time to fight. Who goes first? The most realisti..."

I have heard of this blog, mostly thanks for its notorious title. I did also know that this gaming group plays mostly DnD. Somehow now, today I thought that I'd check out this blog and decided to start from the very beginning.

And wow, first post (after players introduction) was cool.

I usually roll Initiative for all the bad guys, maybe different initiative for boss-figure if there is one, and every playercharacter rolls individual initiative. So if there are 4 characters, 5 normal monsters and 1 bigger goon there would be 6 initiative phases in a round.

And I know, that if you have to wait your 3 friends to do their turn, then all my 5 monsters and then this boss goon, that poor last player gets bored to death. Heck, I've been there!
Nothing kills joy of game more than waiting. Is it waiting for your turn in a fast paced fight (in game time atleast) what actually costs you 10 minutes waiting to roll to hit, or GM starting to fobble through his rulebook for some nitpicking.

Why did I point out that blog post at the start. Because, it is that good. Simple. And fun to read.

From now on I will take 2 initiative phases. 1 for enemies and 1 for heroes. Period. Or atleast in group-dynamic games.
