Started Mass Effect the second time and wrote scifi rpg in my sleep

Picture from Bioware website
Yesterday I started playing Mass Effect with PC again. I had started it earlier but didn't like PC gaming. Now I got gaming room with a nice armchair to sit when using PC so PC gaming is much more enjoyable.

Don't know yet how good Mass Effect plot is but I like the system how it works.

After playing Mass Effect I moved into bed and watched some movie before fell asleep. And in my dream I wrote scifi rpg! Here are some ideas I got from my dream:

- Game is based on LotFP rules (races as class, ascending AC, encumbrance system etc. etc.)
- It had a silly name: Oddities of the Darkest Space - Weird science fiction
- There are power shields what protect any damage in shields range. So if shield's range is 2-5 all damage results between 2-5 are nullified. Shields have charges how many times they can nullify damage before recharging it (Fading Suns style)
- To hit and Damage is D20 + AB + weapon damage solid + d against armor class. The amount of damage is the difference of AC and To hit roll (I think base AC should be higher than 12... maybe 15 or something).
- Weapon clip is empty when you roll weapon damage d equal to "empty" score. For example if weapon's damage die is d6 and "empty" is 1-2 you roll that damage result you need to reload
- Magic is replaced with psi-powers modified magic rules

Those above are the rules I was writing in my dream. It's a mix of LotFP, Fading Suns and Dungeonslayers I see.

Warp shitted

Sorry for bad language of this post, but even imaginary science characters do curse if it suits their character concept. So... here is a term for science fiction roleplaying games: Warp Shitted.

I came up with this term when I saw term "sharp witted" on one site and just twisted it to warp shitted. After a short laugh it all was clear to me.

Some people cannot stand warping. They get nausea and or headache. This is called "physiological short term symptoms of warping". But generally in slang, it is just called "warp shitted".

You can use it in sentence like this:
"Oh man, I don't like this at all. I get warp shitted so easily."
"That newbie, he was totally warp shitted after his first wormhole."
"I drank too much last night. I feel so totally warp shitted now."
"Hands up who needs bags for warp shitting after a Jump Gate?"

You can also use it in more witty ways. Like this:
"This song totally shits my warp!" (This song is awesome, or horrible depending on context.)
"What a warping shit way to die." (What a horrible way to die.)
"What the shitwarp are you talking about?" (What the F*** are you talking about.)
"Don't mess with my warp shit ever again!" (Don't mess my things ever again.)
"I warp the shit out of him!" (I totally kick his a**.)
"What the warpshit is this?" (What the heck is this?)

Xenophobia in science fiction (X for A-Z)

Even though humanity has reached the stars and met other races more primitive or advanced, more agressive or peaceful, still racism is written in human history. Maybe racism against each other amongst us people has seized, but racism has found its new form: Xenophobia.

In science fiction xenophobia means hatred or fear of foreigners or strangers or of their politics or culture from other races outside of humanity. Also other alien races can be xenophobic towards humans or other alien races.

If there are space travels, different worlds and cultures and that evil spawning race threatening all known civilization - human or non-human - why there is xenophobia?

For the same reason it has always existed. Fear of different, uneducated mind, fear of higher power or fear that lower civilization can somehow ruin your own. And in some spacestations or busy spaceports locals might feel that all other beings, races and aliens are some kind of threat for their living and their culture. Maybe they are afraid of change and in that fear it doesn't matter if the change would be good or bad.

To understand xenophobia in science fiction you just need to look at written history. It is the same. Reasons are same. Only in future the target might have bigger space ships with weird technology or their skin might be blue.
